Humanity has achieved many victories in the battle of life, yet there is one opponent that has proven stronger than all of us, and all we can do is postpone our defeat against it. Do you know who I mean? Yes, dear friend, it is death! The stubborn adversary that will eventually conquer us all sooner or later.
However, it has not always been this way? Death entered our world when our first father, Adam, disobeyed God’s commandments. We inherited Adam’s sinful nature; who among us does not sin, whether in small or big ways, and disobey God? We sin in word and deed. We are all guilty and deserve God’s condemnation. Since the punishment for sin is death, death is our fate—not just the death of the body, but eternal punishment and complete separation from God. Thus, Satan, the prince of death, has triumphed over us. By nature, we are all on the losing side.
But what if I told you about a unique champion who has never been defeated, not in the field of sports, but in the battle of life and death.
This champion is Jesus Christ, who came to our world to represent all humanity in the battle against death and Satan. He emerged victorious from the fight. Christ restored the relationship between humanity and its Creator and offered the gift of life. The Bible explains this by saying:
“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.” (1 Peter 3:18)
The Lord Jesus Christ came to earth. His birth, life, death, and resurrection are historically proven facts. What He declared about Himself, that He is God incarnate, He proved with astounding miracles. He created eyes for a man born blind, raised the dead with a word, and He even forgave the sins of the guilty. Christ’s works confirmed His identity.
Nevertheless, Jesus Christ’s primary purpose was not just to perform miracles but to address the issue of sin that separated us from God and made us spiritually dead and thus defeated by Satan. Jesus, the only Righteous, the only Perfect One, entered the arena of life without ever committing a fault. He willingly died on the cross to bear the punishment for our sins, then rose victorious over death. And Christ will return again to judge the whole earth.
Heaven has proclaimed the eternal victory of the Lord Jesus Christ. Because He lives, He offers a final victory and the gift of eternal life to all who believe in Him (that is, who trust in the salvation obtained on the cross).
Dear friend, you enjoy your team’s victory, don’t you? And you joyfully shout: “We won!” But you didn’t actually make any effort on the field; the team made the effort and scored the goals. You merely enjoy the results of their labour because you belong to them. Likewise, the Lord Jesus sacrificed Himself for us and won the definitive victory over Satan and death caused by sin. He grants the right to all who belong to Him and believe in His lordship to benefit from His victory. He also promised the help of His Spirit to overcome the challenges and problems of life.
So, when the final whistle blows, announcing the end of your life, which side will you be on? You can be on the winning side if you put your trust in Christ.
Prayer: “Lord God, I confess that I am a sinner and guilty. Please forgive my sins. I believe that Jesus Christ died in my place to pay the penalty for my sins. I trust in Jesus Christ. Be Lord of my life, lead me to repentance, and accept me into Your presence.”
The Lord Jesus welcomes you to join His winning team.
